Match Report: Sat 6th Feb 2010
Yeovil & Sherborne C 3 ISCA C 3

After last weeks hard fought, but ultimately pointless trip to Bridgwater, Yeovil 4s hosted promotion chasing ISCA, whose previous game had been a 9-0 victory over Bridgwater! Always difficult opponents, the first mention has to go to the umpires Hayley Parsons and Harriet White who ensured the game was without incident. Under some trying times, they made some excellent decisions and their composure made sure the game was able to be played properly.

ISCA came out the blocks quickly, and applied pressure onto another changed Yeovil side, having lost Hendon, Bason and Pearce to the 3s, and Hotham being kidnapped by Bulgarian pirates thinking he is a rich playboy and Glover running somewhere!, welcoming back Sam Miles, Josh Fenwick (released by the AA), James Bell and returning skipper Calum Gray. ISCA made use of the of the lack of cohesion in the Yeovil mid-field to dominate the proceedings. With one player who really shouldn't be playing at this level, causing mayhem both within the Yeovil's defence with the speed and skills of his feet and hands, and within his own side by the speed of his mouth, ISCA quickly went 1 up with a shot inside the right post, 2 up with a drag flicked short corner under the bar and then 3 up with another attack. 20 minutes gone and 3 nil down, and generally out the of the game, the umpires called both sides together for a cool down and wise words from the skipper settled Yeovil down and through Adrian Morgan and James Bell, Yeovil started to build up some momentum. Rotating forwards Davidson, Fenwick and Miles started to break into the circle, and relieving the pressure at the back. Greg Wheeler, started running into space and a short corner was won. Bibby stepped up and rifled in a straight strike to pull one back.

The goal allowed Yeovil to gain some confidence which they took into the second half, and the ISCA's early dominance started to falter. Bell was enjoying his best game for the team in the middle of the park, and Bibby and Organ were able to step up from defence, now confident that ISCA couldn't break in numbers. The forwards piled on the pressure and started winning short corners with nearly every attack. The routine of Gray, Morgan and Bibby to strike was on fire, and 5 short corners in 10 minutes saw a disabled defender, a fine save at the post, a shot lobbed over the top from a slip to McDermid and 2 goals. The first saw the keeper clear the ball out the top of the circle, picked up by Vodden whose powerful run back allowed him to slip the ball to Gray at the far post for his goal, and then minutes later Bibby got his brace with another powerful strike to bring the teams level with 15 minutes to go. Suddenly ISCA woke up and started to mount attacks again onto the Yeovil defence, but mindful of the counter they couldn't do this in numbers, and the except for a diving save from Bibby, (ripples felt in nearby Wincanton,) no real chances fell to ISCA. The last 10 minutes saw ISCA down to 10 men, but Yeovil had already used up all their energy and though they had some chances were unable to pull off what would have been a tremendous victory.
