Mens Team Selection - September Availability

All players should by now be aware that training has started for the new season and the first matches will soon be upon us. (If you are not, then please check out the details on the YSHC website.) It is now time for the men's captains to start selecting their initial teams. In order to do this, they obviously need to know the details and availability of the potential players. In the past this has involved the captains in many hours of fruitless phone calls and texting when the onus should be on the players to provide this information proactively (see the club selection policy on the website). The captains can then concentrate on selecting a team based on merit and ability from known availability.

With this in mind, would all players please review their diaries and commitments and provide full details of their availability for every Saturday in September - i.e. 4th, 11th, 18th (friendly matches) and 25th (first league matches). If you only have limited availability on a particular day then please detail the times you can play. It would help the captains in making their team selections if you could also include your preferred playing position.

Pending the appointment of a Club Captain for the Men's section, on this occasion, please forward this information to Tony Organ, Club Communications and Website Officer (see contacts page). Replies, preferably by email to Tony Organ, should be sent to arrive by 15:00 hrs on Wednesday 1st September in order to produce a collated list in time for that evening's training session.

Unfortunately, failure to respond to this request may mean that you may be overlooked for initial selection.

(This request was also sent by group email to all on the men's section mailing list. If you did not receive the email and ought to have, then you need to provide correct and up-to-date contact information to the Club Secretary. Have you registered for the 2010/11 season?)

Hockey Stick Test Evenings - 15/16th September 2010

With the ever-increasing technology and design used to produce the constantly changing wide range of hockey sticks, it is intensely difficult for the enthusiastic player to decide which stick best suits their game. When taking the price into consideration, a wrong decision can prove disheartening and costly. In order to eliminate the possibility of making such a mistake, Tony Pryce Sports have an extensive range of Demo Hockey Sticks that club members can try before they choose.

Tony Pryce Sports are offering Sherborne Hockey Club the opportunity of Hockey Stick Test Evenings when members can try out these sticks. The idea is to play with the demo sticks during a practice or training session where all concerned can have fun and see for themselves the differences between each model. There is no obligation to purchase, just have fun and enjoy an opportunity ordinarily not available.

The Club Stick Test Evenings have been arranged for

Wed 15th Sept - 7.30pm to 9pm (Men)
Thu 16th Sept - 7.00pm to 9pm (Juniors then Ladies)
